Material innovation and technology transfer

In order to maintain a high level of competitiveness, FIMA Carlo Frattini avails itself of Matech, the Data Base related to innovative materials and production processes created by a group of researchers in the sector of competence. Matech is a data processing data base, a very broad and diversified data library, which includes samples of the materials and avails itself of the MITT search system – Material Innovation and Technology Transfer, based on which materials and technologies already consolidated within some sectors become a source of innovation for other types of products and manufacturings, making the development of research activities easier.

Nanostructured surface coatings

Products manufactured with nanotechnologies offer new functions and better performances leading to industrial innovation. FIMA in cooperation with new technology partners, is currently committed to research aimed at realizing nanostructured surface coatings of brass and bronze faucets and valves for protection and decoration. Through two types of processes (the CVD – Chemical Vapour Deposition and the PDV – Physical Vapour Deposition) tests are carried out with very thin surface coatings, able to ensure greater hardness, duration and resistance to abrasion as compared to the current ones. In addition, nanotechnologies allow an endless colour range, replacing or adding up to all the coating processes, as well as to the traditional chromeplating and galvanic nickel-plating techniques.
